Racing towards Doucethood/Walshdom
Having spent one and a half long years in the early Willis family design (3 boys), the Mazzuccos are moving on towards either the Doucets of Dollard model (4 boys) or the 3 boys & one girl model made famous by the Walshes of Townline. Will they ever achieve the elusive Fasani pentanarchy? God only knows.
To put it another way, we are expecting a fourth child! Due date April 6, 2009.
Sorry I didn't call everyone (or anyone, for that matter); in a post-Palin world, having your fourth child just isn't as newsworthy as it once was. If it makes you feel better, we haven't even told my parents yet. I think we'll just call them when it's time to deliver. "Hey, guys, can I drop the kids off for a few hours? Betsy's having another baby."
This whole experience reminds me of some line from an old movie I used to have heard of when I slept at night... "I might one day go as high as five, but I really don't know what that would do to you. So, let's just start with what we have. What did this do to you? Tell me. And remember, this is for posterity, so be honest -- how do you feel?"
Contrary to the implication of my silly comments above (I've been thinking for weeks about how to announce it, and I couldn't decide between the TPB reference or the family unit comparison), we really are quite excited about our new child. And we are looking forward to new baby Mazzucco getting a chance to play with Nora, Jaya, Moira Thome Hurst, Second Daughter, the Jewel of Jakharta, little Doucet #2, and anyone else born in 2008-9 that I may have overlooked.

The TPB quote is a shockingly good reference to delivering a baby.
And did I miss a momentous post from Hursty? Or was that a joke? I'm too sleep deprived to know (from packing and cleaning, not from Second Daughter who's so miraculous a sleeper I believe it really is a miracle and God will return her real sleeping pattern once we get past this move).
Yes, well, I hadn't gotten around to calling everyone, and seeing as this will be Hillary's and my first child and not our fourth, I thought I should let people know over the telephone rather than the blog. But since Dan decided to go ahead and mention it, I suppose that is no longer possible, pig.
SO, yes, Hillary and I are expecting a little Hurst on March 20, 2009. We are obviously VERY excited, and I'm sorry that I haven't called everyone yet to tell you "in person."
We already had the first ultrasound, and our baby looked a lot less blob-like than I was anticipating. It actually looked like it was dancing. We have our next ultrasound in mid-October, at which time we will find out if Thome Hurst will be playing baseball or softball.

I, too, thought the TPB quote was amazingly appropriate.
And although I think that having a fourth or fifth child sounds marvelous, we intend to stick with the Taylor and Jarosh models (in case anyone was wondering.)

I have been in a trial for a few days and haven't checked the blog--what a spectacular series of posts!! Congratulations to Dan and Betsy and Jon and Hillary!! Unbelievably exciting!! We love all you people, and your present and future children. :) (Don't worry, no surprise news here--still dealing with the cat and geriatric dog.)

(I can't resist adding, though, that shes can play baseball. I did. It's possible, likely even, that the Porters will adopt the Clinton model...this analogy disturbs my husband, but pleases me, as I'm sure you know.)
ps. In case it wasn't obvious, the deleted comments were from me. I originally wrote that planning to only have one child is made more difficult by reading Tiffany's blog. Then, I said that Kansas Mom's blog has a similar effect. Then, I deleted both of those comments because I figured that BLD kids who didn't have a blog may feel jealous. Then, I waited a few days and realized that there was silence on the BLD airwaves and was worried that it might be because people were wondering what I had written that warranted deleting. So, now I'm fessing up and you can go back to blogging.
