I'm sorry I killed you.

The silence is deafening

The RSVPs are a little slow in coming. Are people scuffling to find reasonable excuses for why they can't get to Wichita 2012? Were they hoping for the end of the world to come today? Or are they merely holding their breath while the Indians are in first place?

These questions I cannot answer.

I can say this: Betsy will most likely not be at Wichita 2012. Our plans for cross-country travel, which have been in the works for at least 3 years, have been replaced by the expectation of another child. #5 is due in December. We hope to name him Rocky, or simply #5.

I am not yet prepared to cancel my plans to go to Wichita. I just have to teach Aidan and Wesley to drive so that I don't have to drive 22 straight hours.

Wichita 2012

Just a reminder. I plan to keep reminding people for the next year so there will be no excuses. Josh & Jill, if you are no longer up for this and/or do not anticipate being in Wichita in the Summer of 2012, you might want to chime in.

GO TRIBE.

I knew it!

Water is always a good choice to rehydrate after working out, but researchers suggest beer is better

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Forget water or Gatorade. The drink of choice to rehydrate after a workout is beer.
Researchers at Granada University in Spain found beer can help retain liquid better than water alone.
The results were published in the British newspaper The Telegraph. The study involved a group of students. They were asked to work out until their body temperature reached 104 degrees.
Researchers then gave beer to half of the students and water to the other half.
They said the bubbles in the beer help quench thirst while the carbohydrates help make up for burned calories.
A cardiologist with the Real Madrid football team told the paper he has long recommended beer to professional sportsmen after exhausting activities.

The Drunkest Girls at the Party

Have any of you actually read this column in The Dartmouth? If not, um, don't. I just did today for some reason, and I am pretty sure that I killed more brain cells in that 30 seconds than I do in watching an entire 2 hour episode of the Bachelor (this is in no way to be taken as an admission of guilt, responsibility, or any kind of association with that television show in any way, whatsoever; psst, Hillary, do not give me up).

Dreaming

I dreamed last night that Adin moved in next door. I was so excited! (And not just because I sensed an awesome babysitter near-by.)

But Josh wouldn't let her into our house.

Analysis anyone?

*69

I know all about the warehouse fire
I know squirrel-ies didn't chew the wires
Three people have my number - the other two were with me.
I don't like to tell-tell but I'm not your patsy
This time you have gone too far with me
I know you called, I know you called, I know you called
I know you called, I know you called, I know you hung up my line.
Star 69

At first it was hard to think that no one born after 1995 or so would even understand what that song is about (since the advent of the cell phone eliminated the need for "*69." But then I realized that no one born before 1995 understood it, either.

I can't be your character witness
I can't be your alibi

Ahh, it brings me back to a simpler time.

Birthday Wishes

Happy Birthday, Dearest Kawate!

(In full disclosure, this post also serves the alternate purpose of putting something new up here so I don't have to keep looking at my last post every time I check the site, only to be disappointed that there have been no new updates.)

BLD Summer?

Ladies and Gentlemen and Very Many Children,

It has been far too long since we have either organized a gathering or had one nicely planned for us as a byproduct of marriage or Dartmouth reunion.

As our legions of BLD offspring continue to grow (and I say this fully admitting that my travels have become exponentially more difficult with just ONE child as opposed to two, three, or even four), I understand that such gatherings are becoming harder to plan as well as more expensive.

However, while our formerly annual BLD New Year and subsequent (and seemingly also formerly) annual BLD Summer seem to have fallen by the wayside as a result, I am posting this to see if we might try to resurrect it this summer of 2011.  Our excuses for such a celebratory (and, frankly, quite august) assemblage could be:

1) The Greenwald Family returning to the States?

2) The engagement of one Maurissa Horwitz?

3) The settling down (at least temporarily) of Adin Kawate in the 48-contiguous states?

4) The wildly successful political run of Mr. Lincoln Willis?

5) My 2010 fantasy baseball championship and regular-season scoring record in fantasy football?

Can we make something work?  Thoughts and comments would be greatly appreciated.  Happy New Year to everyone.

That is all.

I can't believe it.

There is no S. Morganstern.

Look up TPB on Wikipedia.

Aidan and I started reading "the good parts" version today. We read more than 100 pages together.
But apparently there is no full version. It's all a big lie.

My world is collapsing around my ears.

And Hollis is a girl.
Hollister is a city and a company.

Newest BLD Member

Not sure how far the news traveled...

Please welcome Hollis Merrill Fasani to the BLD! Mom and baby are both doing great. Dad has to go back to work tomorrow so we'll see if Mom's status has changed tomorrow night.

As much as Jaya looks like a Fasani, this one looks like a Lynch. Crazy genetics.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving BLD! Here's to your families, your health, and your friendship. Salud!

Be safe if you're traveling. Be patient if you're hosting. On second thought...

Be patient if you're traveling. Be safe if you're hosting. You get the idea.

I have an ROUS in my compost bin

He is a possum.

I tried to chase him out with a shovel, but he just... well... he played possum.

Recommendations?

Help for Lincoln

Lincoln, I thought you might need some pointers in speech-making from one of the great up-and-coming politicians Ohio has to offer.  I would watch all 6 minutes if you have time.  You'll probably want to take notes.

Beavis & Butthead

So I'm talking with Ernest today about new spirits brands and the conversation referenced the quality perception of Canadian products. The reference sparked a diversion to Southpark, which in turn led to references to Beavis & Butthead. We agreed that watching Beavis & Butthead does actually make you more stupid.

I refrained from mentioning that Josh and I spent an entire weekend painting the Moose double while quoting Beavis & Butthead nonstop.

Ahh, good times. Good times.

Good stuff that Josh should post a comment on the day I was thinking of him at work.

Parenting is easy when they can all walk

Last time we had a 16 month-old and Betsy wasn't pregnant, it was because she had just given birth to Wesley. I have to say it's nice to get sevenish hours of sleep every night and to only contend with one nap per day. Any suggestions as to what we can do with all our new-found free time?

BLD Sig Eps

Sorry to hijack the blog, but I heard that no one responded to Hasenkamp's email. Just in case you missed the message, there's a fundraising effort going on for the new house being built. Check out the photos of the demolition and building at: feed://sigepnewhouse.tumblr.com/rss. Anyway, Russ Stidolph is matching all 97, 98, and 99 donations. See the text below:

Dear SigEps from ’97, ’98 and ’99,

As some of you are aware, Zeuss, our beloved House Dog to SigEp during your tenure on campus, recently passed away this past May after 15 wonderful years. To memorialize Zeuss and the spirit and era of the house he symbolized your fraternity brother, Russ Stidolph, is proposing to make a significant contribution to SigEp in his honor to support the Campaign to build the new chapter house. To support the effort and to help memorialize Zeuss, and your love of SigEp, now is your chance to take up the challenge of raising the funds to name the Presidents’ Suite in the new chapter house in memory of Zeuss.

Russ is issuing a challenge pledge of $20,000 to all members of the SigEp classes of ’97, ’98 and ’99. What that means is that Russ will match, dollar-for-dollar, every pledge from members of those three classes, a maximum from $2,000 from each individual, and a total from all three classes of up to $20,000.

If you step up and meet Russ’ challenge, not only will the President’s Room be named for Zeus, but the Campaign will go over the $800,000 mark in pledges!

Furthermore, if any class raises $15,000 or more as a group, they will be able to name one of the singles on behalf of the class. This is a separate challenge that is being made by the classes of ’60, ’05, ’10, ’11 and ’12 – all of which have already pledged enough to name a room! So the competition is on – and you have several incentives to make your pledge.

To accept Russ’ challenge, just complete the attached pledge card and return it either by mail or email. Pledges can be spread over a period of up to five years; can be fulfilled by direct payment or credit card; and can be set up for automatic periodic payment directly from your bank account or credit card. And pledges to the Campaign for SigEp at Dartmouth are tax deductible.

Yours,

Bob Wetzel ‘76

Chairman, The Campaign for SigEp at Dartmouth

Also, if you didn't receive the email announcement, please let me know. My list was horribly out of date.
